GFC Hsinchu Thanksgiving

I was so thankful for this last Sunday’s Thanksgiving celebration. Over sixty people piled into Carmen and Ken’s apartment to celebrate Thanksgiving. There was so much food, including turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing.

Thanksgiving Food

A good number of the students came early to help out with cooking and decorations. Two students had a good time helping me prepare 18 lbs of cream of corn. And for many, it was their first time celebrating Thanksgiving like this. I was glad that they had the opportunity spend it with us.

Thank You Thank You Thank You Song

What is celebration without singing and dancing? Yes, we praised God with the performances of two songs, Thank You Thank You Thank You and I am Thankful to God. Everyone went all out during the dance so that we could praise God and have fun.

Thanksgiving Tree

The most memorable part of the celebration was when we gathered around the thanksgiving tree that Carmen and many others worked hard to make. We each wrote what we were thankful for on a leaf and went around the circle sharing. It was special because we got to pause and thank God by naming specifically what we were grateful for. I was especially thankful for each person in the room, ranging from Eugene and Cynthia, who gave up their comfortable life in America to start a church here in Taiwan, to the students that came for the first time through an invitation of a friend. I know that we as a whole were there, as a product of much prayer, people’s sacrifice, and God’s leading. It was a sight to see! Overall I am thankful to God that my first Thanksgiving in Taiwan was spent together in this way, as one community, recounting God’s faithfulness.
